In the News – City of Tampa Partners with ICC

Tampa Bay, FL – The City of Tampa is currently working with local engineering consulting firms MC Squared and International Cybernetics to inventory and assess the conditions of the 1,500 miles of City-owned and maintained roadways.  The City has opted to use an automated survey to provide a safer, faster, more time-effective data collection effort with more consistent data.  A van equipped with high tech lasers and cameras will be driving throughout the city, capturing 2D and 3D images at 1 millimeter resolution – even while driving the speed limit.

The purpose of this citywide survey is to understand the condition of our roadways – where are the cracks, potholes, and other pavement issues.  Each roadway will be assigned a score, also known as Pavement Condition Index (PCI), which will help the City to understand where are the greatest needs, and which roads need immediate maintenance or resurfacing.  Better understanding the City’s current needs will help us to transform Tampa’s transportation.

“We are so excited to be partnering with MC Squared and International Cybernetics to take a serious look at our roadways,” says Mayor Jane Castor. “If we want to build a stronger city, we have to invest in our infrastructure, and that includes fixing our streets. This technology will allow us to collect data in a fair, safe, and efficient way so that we can coordinate repairs across departments and provide maintenance to neighborhoods that need it most.”
