A Glimpse Through the Window: Meet Seyed Ayoubi

“If you can’t give 100%… or at least 98% every day in your job, then you’re in the wrong field.”

A bold assertion made by our very own Seyed Ayoubi, but when you love what you do to the extent that Seyed does, it all makes sense. ICC-IMS is dedicated to supporting clients by transforming how industries and organizations handle challenges with infrastructure, fostering new levels of precision, efficiency, and data-driven decisions. A critical component of this process comes through the data collection spear-headed by field operators such as Seyed. But what do these travelers do? Let’s kick back and see what a day in the life of a field operator truly entails.

Seyed starts every day at 5:30 AM, not by necessity, but merely through habit. Self-fueling in the form of dark caffeinated beverages jump-starts his morning and his day begins. Seyed approaches the IrisPRO Pave around 6:30 AM. He checks to ensure devices and systems are operating and properly calibrated and then hits the road to begin surveying roads and pavement conditions. Having been in this line of work for 20 years, Seyed self-identifies as a human-machine: efficient, engaged, and locked in completely in his assignments. He prefers to imagine he is the client for all projects and strives for perfection in all tasks to provide optimal data and insights.

Seyed works an hour after the sun has risen until an hour before it sets. This enables the cameras on the IrisPRO Pave to capture the most detail available with clarity. This commitment to excellence persists throughout Seyed’s daily regimen. He confessed if he begins to feel tired or disengaged, he will pause his collection to be resumed later when his wits have returned: “Approach every project as though it were your own. I wouldn’t want poor work or garbage given to me, so why would I give that to the client?” All the data that is collected and accrued during his surveying is immediately uploaded to a built-in hard drive in the IrisPRO Pave and is then “cloned” or duplicated to a backup drive to ensure precious assets and insights are not lost. Using GPS technology, the “iXblue” shows where drivers are in real-time and can provide status updates for their routes. At the end of the day, project-specific files/folders are updated, backed up, and saved across a series of hard drives to ensure files are not lost. At this point, Seyed will stop at a hotel to oversee this data-saving and transferring process, check images to ensure usability, and have dinner before bed!

Seyed’s passion for his job is palpable. Every day is an adventure. He is grateful for being able to see so much of the country for a living. Originally born in Iran, then moving to Kuwait while young, Seyed migrated to Canada where he has now been a citizen for the past 36 years, living alongside his wife. A trilingualist, he speaks Farsi, Arabic, and English fluently, and approaches every day with optimism. When asked what is his favorite destination? He stated the breathtaking landscape of Arizona! He doubts he would have ever got the chance to explore the state otherwise. Seeing a roadrunner for the first time in real life took him aback, as he had only seen one in the Looney Tunes! There seems to be a potential irony found between the Looney Tunes Road Runner and the capable driving hands of our own Seyed Ayoubi, but we will leave that to a wiser person to connect.

Until next time, we will see you on the road! *Beep, Beep*
