Ryan Hague, PE, Pavement Manager for the City, said it plainly:
“We did have one brief foray into the world of AI pavement rating using windshield mounted cell phones but immediately switched back to IMS after the product proved itself to be subpar.”
AI sounds like the most advanced option on the market. But AI can only analyze what a windshield-mounted cell phone captures, and a phone can’t measure crack widths, rut depths, or roughness to industry standards. Our LCMS-2 measures all three at 1 mm resolution, in any light, the same way every cycle.
That matters most when budgets are tight. With limited funding, every dollar has to go to the right road at the right time. If the data is incomplete or wrong, the plan built on it is too: preservation money spent on streets that needed rehab, and roads that could have been saved slipping into reconstruction.
Better data doesn’t stretch a budget. It makes sure the budget goes where it should.
Edmonds has relied on IMS since 2017 for data they can stand behind. If you want a plan that puts every dollar on the right road and holds up to scrutiny, let’s talk.
