Revolutionizing Road Safety! ICC-IMS Partners with RetroTekUSA for Tampa Retroreflectivity Survey Project

International Cybernetics Company (ICC) and IMS Infrastructure Management Services are thrilled to announce our partnership with RetroTek Retroreflectometers – Reflective Measurement Systems (or RetroTekUSA) on a pioneering retroreflectivity survey project in Tampa. In 2024, leveraging the advanced capabilities of the RetroTek-D, we were selected to assess and enhance the retroreflectivity of approximately 400 miles (644 km) of highway roads throughout the Tampa region.

ICC-IMS and RetroTekUSA’s work goes beyond mere data collection. Together, we engage directly with Departments of Transportation, aiding in data-driven decision-making processes, prioritizing essential infrastructure maintenance, and providing unparalleled pavement engineering expertise to civil engineering firms. This partnership extends our reach to concessionaires, aiding in the management of expansive roadway networks, and heightening safety and efficiency standards for airport operations.

In light of FHWA’s September 2022 mandate, which sets forth strict minimum requirements for pavement marking retroreflectivity, our project is crucial. It will furnish Tampa’s pavement maintenance teams with vital baseline data to forecast and plan restriping activities, ensuring adherence to these stringent new regulations before the September 2026 deadline.

The RetroTek-D stands out as the only front of vehicle-mounted retroreflectometer system certified to ASTM E 1710 and 30M geometry standards that can survey left lines, right lines, and center in-lane critical safety pavement markings (e.g. directional arrows, etc.) in the lane travelled in one pass day or night at traffic speed. Capable of automatically assessing the color, line type, line width,  retroreflectivity, and day contrast of all lane markings including assessing the absence and presence of RPMs.
