Our dedicated team of pavement engineers, Mostafa Nakhaei, Megan Foshee Ratliff, EIT, Amir Ghanbari, and James Erskine, are transforming road maintenance into a fun and efficient process! Their expertise and hard work are making a significant impact on the Wyandotte County, Kansas, community.
So, what is “Mill and Overlay”? It is a street maintenance technique that involves removing the top layer (about 2 inches) of a street using a large milling machine. This process, known as pavement milling, helps smooth and level the surface by grinding away the old layer. Once the older, top layer is removed, a new layer of bituminous pavement is placed over the existing surface. This new layer, usually 1.5″ – 2″ thick, revitalizes the road, providing a smoother, safer driving experience.
Mill and overlays are essential for extending the life of roads and ensuring they remain in good condition. It addresses surface issues without the need for full-depth removal, making it a cost-effective and efficient solution for road maintenance
Kudos to all our Pavement Engineers for their hard work and dedication to keeping Wyandotte County’s roads in top shape!
