ICC-IMS just completed friction analysis on eight crosswalks at two intersections along US-1 in the Town of Jupiter, FL!
In Florida, decorative pattern pavements are often used when constructing crosswalks to enhance their visual aesthetics. However, when such materials are used in Florida, they must conform to friction standards as set forth by the state DOT. This standard ensures the materials used have adequate friction properties for the safety of both pedestrians and motorists.
We use a combination of the Nippo Dynamic Friction Tester (DFT) that conforms to ASTM E1911 and the ICC manufactured Locked Wheel Friction Tester that conforms to ASTM E274 to complete the analysis.
