PCI (Pavement Condition Index) is a standardized score from 0 to 100 that tells us how healthy a pavement surface is. It is based on visual inspections that identify surface issues like cracking, rutting, potholes, and other surface distresses.
Why is accurate PCI so important?
➡️Helps to prioritize limited budgets
➡️Assists with planning street maintenance programs
➡️Communicates needs with stakeholders and the public
➡️Extends the life of road assets
By the numbers:
✅85–100 – Excellent: No treatment needed
✅70–85 – Good: Preventive maintenance
55–70 – Fair: Minor rehab
40–55 -Poor: Major rehab
<40- Very Poor/Failed: Structural overhaul or reconstruction
By understanding the severity and extent of each distress, ICC-IMS can provide targeted recommendations for maintenance and repair. This suite of advanced analytical tools are rigorous QC/QA checks ensure that the Pavement Condition Index (PCI) vales we generate are not only accurate, but also repeatable.
