Wyoming, USA – Did you know that Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming has over 310 miles of paved roadways?

These roads wind through some of the most breathtaking landscapes the United States has to offer. Because of its raw, natural beauty, it’s no wonder that millions of people flock to Yellowstone every year.

Something you may not think about when visiting Yellowstone is how much work goes into maintaining the infrastructure that keeps us connected to 10,000 hydrothermal features, 1,800 archeological sites, 500 geysers, 290 waterfalls, and hundreds of species of mammals, birds, fish, amphibians, and reptiles. Not only does the park sit on top of an active volcano, but it is subject to extreme weather conditions (99ºF to -66ºF / 37ºC to -54ºC), heavy traffic, unique environmental concerns that include protected species of plants/wildlife, and sensitive geologic areas.

While it was an added perk that our field crew got to enjoy these Yellowstone vistas, it was business as usual during this road data collection. ICC is proud to play a part in the assessment and preservation of roadways in and around the world’s first national park so it can be enjoyed by visitors (and the bison that often like to “hit the pavement”!) for years to come.
